Idea for you…

In many recent meetings of clients and being at several shows, It sounds and appears like many brides and grooms are looking for different and unique ideas. Only a thought but I think it could be pretty cool. Call Seaway Navigation and Tours and inquire about your rehearsal dinner or even bridal showers, or even a small intimate wedding aboard the beautiful Mystere. After being hired to work some events onboard I have seen how beautiful it can be. Their website is seawaynavigationandtours.com. Tell them I told you to call. Captain Pyle and Stephanie are awesome hosts and will charter their vessel at a great rate including a bar and buffet! Just a thought and a good one I think! Check their blog here!

Fun things happening!

There are a lot of fun events this time of the year. As many of you know I am the parent of a Down syndrome child. When Zach was born it made me look at life very differently. I get approached a lot to offer my services for various events such as the upcoming Special Olympics, DSA Valentines Party, Family Capped talent show, Children’s Miracle Network, the Children’s Hospital and lets not forget the Make A Wish foundation. Most recently the Make A Wish event – Rock for Wishes, thanks for the invite! Did you know a wish is granted every 40 minutes? The reason I am writing this is not the fact I get asked to help, it’s the fact I want you to think of the children and adults that can use our help. If you have a talent, or something you would like to give, please do it. A little will go a long ways. Hopefully I will see you in the near future wether it’s a wedding or a charitable event.

Caution! Not Skip Clark

I have received emails from another service indicating someone is using my name. First of all to use someone’s name is illegal, and then to use a email address of someone else only makes matters worse. The emails I received came from 2 different ip address’s but both come back to the same person. I have received bogus emails from him before and with his name attached. For the record I do not own or have any interest in Syracuse-Wedding-DJs.com. However I received copies from Syracuse-Wedding-DJs of the emails sent for my own best interest. I have notified our attorney, the ISP and attorney general and emailed the letters and information pertaining to such. Also other letters with name on them along with SAME ip address’s.

Skip Clark Entertainment correspondence is all properly sent, and electronically signed accordingly any other email is null or void. If you receive any email and in doubt please send it to me for more evidence. It’s really ashame that some individual or DJ comany would stoop to such a low level. No name will be mentioned here yet but I will say this.. “Eh”

This is all rather amusing seeing my wife has nothing to do with Syracuse University.

Here is one of two emails sent to Syracuse-Wedding-Djs.com

Welcome to Twenty Ten!

Welcome to 2010 (twenty ten) as they say it should be said! However 2 thousand and 10 would be ok by me…
At Skip Clark Entertainment we are looking forward to another busy wedding season. Only a few dates remain. Call now and check on yours.

For brides and grooms, it’s not only important to come up with a New Year’s Resolution. It’s also the beginning of “Wedding Season” – a time when happy, but sometimes anxious couples start preparing for their wedding ceremony and celebration of marriage.

Couples begin their search for photographers and videographers to record the special day. Everything runs smoothly for a few months until someone reminds them about getting music for the wedding and reception.

The search for music starts with deciding what kind of music couples want to hear at their wedding and reception. Next, the two eager people agree on whether the music should be provided by an orchestra, live band, DJ, or a “one-man band.”

Once all these decisions have been made, the search is on for a musician to provide music for one of the most important days of the couple’s lives. However, there is some concern about cost.

I don’t think most couples realize the broad range of rates for a variety of musicians. The cost can be from a few hundred dollars to more than $10,000.

The amount of money couples are willing to spend on all aspects of their wedding are not declining despite the economic downturn, Today’s average cost for a traditional wedding with 200 guests is approximately $24,000. And that doesn’t include costs associated with the honeymoon which averages $2,500 for one week.

So what’s the New Year’s Resolution for all of those couples who became engaged during December? It’s “Let’s get this party started!” There are plenty of decisions to be made. Remember what we have said for many years; Make it Your Day, Your Way!
Nancy and I look forward to assisting you in your event! Congratulations on your engagement!

Thanks to Mike and Bethaney, also a couple of thoughts…!

The wedding season continues to be a busy one for SCE! Most recently thank you to Bethaney and Mike for allowing SCE to be a part of their special day! This was Bethaney’s fantasy wedding, from her gown, to the choreographed first dance. The event took place in the Ballroom of the Hotel Syracuse. Class and elegance at its best! It was catered by Pascals. They decided to do all the traditional wedding events including the garter removal and the tossing of the bridal bouquet.

SCE will be back at the Turning Stone for the next few consecutive weeks.

Thoughts, Remember you as a bride has the overall say on how you may want something done. Others may give you advice but in no way should tell you what to do. In recent conversations with a onsite event/wedding coordinator it was brought to my attention that she had a couple of upset brides due to the fact the entertainment insisted on using the stage and not allowing the head table to be set up on the stage. The DJ told the bride he needed to be the center of attention. Yes, the entertainment is one of the most important factors, however they can still do their job without taking away from the brides wishes. Remember that saying many DJ’s use, “Your Day Your Way”? That is exactly the way it should be.

When it comes to feeding the vendors, it is usually customary to do so. More so for your photographer and videographer, considering they have spent most of their day with you. However do not let any of your vendors tell you what they need to eat. Many places have vendor meals in place. It’s vendors as such that make many of us look bad. As a bride planning your event, listen to other ideas but in the end make it your event and do it your way!

No posts since July… Busy!

Wow, time has flown by and so has the 2009 wedding season. However, is there really a wedding season nowadays? My answer is no. As SCE is booking weddings all year long, including many holiday weddings! Every weekend is different and unique in its own way as brides and grooms design and plan their event. There have been some real simple events and there have been some real elaborate, elegant events. Every wedding event is beautiful in its own way. I wish I had the time to write about every bride and groom we have had the pleasure to work with and for. From Ronnie and Stay-C’s reception at Justin’s Grill, 220 guests, a beautiful “Cheese” fountain, a claw machine with toys, all of which made their reception unique. Samantha and Jeffrey at the American Foundry in Oswego, 300 guests, Ice cream cake, wedding on site. Many, many brides and grooms in between and it keeps going. Because of all this our postings have been few. As they say, “busy is good”

There are plenty of great DJ’s out there, and there are plenty who are just out to make a buck, and there are those who try to offer everything, photo booth, videographer, photographer, etc.. Recently, I had a soon to be bride mention she went to a website of a DJ company and it was like going to a Walmart and she didn’t know where to start. There were 30 or more links on the home page. If you want a good videographer, photographer, photo booth, I can point you in the right direction, but I do not specialize in those. SCE specializes in providing unique, personal, elegant DJ entertainment service that will have your guests talking for years to come! It’s the special touch added at the reception, the easy going personality, the familiar voice. As always the focus is on you the bride and groom!

It’s Saturday but not done yet…

Tonight SCE was the chosen entertainment for 2 wonderful people, Andrew and Jeanette. The celebration was held at the Empire Room on the NYS Fairgrounds. The first dance was “Wonderful Tonight” followed by the Father/Daughter, “I Loved Her First” and Mother/Son “Unforgettable”(not the duet). These were songs entirely chosen by them.

Jeanette’s color was Lilac, and of course we used LED uplighting and more. There seems to be a lot of talk about lighting effects etc at receptions. There are plenty of new lighting effects on the market and some of which create more light than ever before. In a recent lunch gathering of various wedding vendors, some of the photographers and videographers brought up that to much lighting may cause some issues with pics and/or video. Remember it is not the lighting effects that will make your event stand out, it’s the music, you and your guests. There are some very successful Dj’s who use no lights! You decide what you want and tell your Dj your thoughts!

Your Wedding, Life and the Universe and all inbetween!

Where do you get your wedding reception ideas? How do you decide between a formal dinner and a buffet? Do you really want to create a seating chart for 200 people? Do you want to embrace the pomp and the circumstance of the receiving line? Where do you look for your wedding reception ideas? The answer to that is a simple one. You look to your own life, the life of your soon to be spouse and you find the a happy middle ground that satisfies you both.

Your wedding reception maybe the first major event hosted by you and your new spouse. A function that celebrates your marriage and invites all of your family and friends to celebrate. The reception is as much for your guests as it is for you. In fact, in most cases your wedding reception will continue after you and your new spouse leave it to head out for the honeymoon.

Wedding reception ideas come from mixing both the drama and the fantasy in our lives. Think of a romantic setting that you’d like to share with your wedding guests and create it. If may mean creating a beautiful outdoor setting with tents and paper lanterns that mix both natural and quiet illuminations as well as dramatic shadows; then that’s what you do.

The wedding reception might include a brightly lit room with colorful decorations, loud music and lots of group dances. Your wedding reception ideas have to come from who the two of you are individually and who you want to be together. It’s the first couple of paragraphs in the new chapter of your lives. So create the setting you want to be seen in and you want to enjoy in and that’s where your wedding reception ideas come from.
